The Application of Saraniya-Dhamma Principles to Strengthen the Political Awareness of The Civil Sector in The Democracy of The People in Pha Luad Sub-District, Tha Pla District, Uttaradit Province

Abstract

This research article aims to: (1) examine the level of civil political consciousness in a democratic regime among the people; (2) investigate the factors affecting civil political consciousness in a democratic regime; and (3) To propose the application of the principles of Sārāṇīyadhamma to enhance civic political consciousness among citizens in a democratic regime of the people in Pha Lueat Subdistrict, Tha Pla District, Uttaradit Province. This study employed a mixed-methods research design consisting of the following components: 1)A survey method was utilized through the distribution of questionnaires. 2)In-depth interviews were conducted with key informants, and 3) Quantitative data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Multiple regression analysis was performed using the stepwise method, comprising quantitative research using questionnaires distributed to a sample of 373 people, determined by Taro Yamane's formula, and qualitative research using in-depth interviews with 10 key informants. Content analysis was conducted considering the context and presented descriptively alongside frequency distribution tables of key informants to support the quantitative data.

          The Result

1. The level of civic political consciousness in a democratic regime among the people of Pha Lueat Subdistrict, Tha Pla District, Uttaradit Province, in terms of Sārāṇīyadhamma principles, was found to be at a high level overall.
2. Regarding the factors affecting civic political consciousness in a democratic regime among the people of Phalueat Subdistrict, Tha Pla District, Uttaradit Province, had correlation values between 3.229 and 10.301, indicating that some pairs had relatively high correlations, which could lead to multicollinearity issues. Therefore, collinearity statistics were tested by examining the Tolerance and Variance Inflation Factor (VIF) values.
3. The application of the Six Principles of Sārāṇīyadhamma to enhance political consciousness among citizens in a democratic regime in Pha Lueat Subdistrict, Tha Pla District, Uttaradit Province reveals that citizens should develop political awareness by expressing their political views in a polite and rational manner, respecting individuals with differing opinions, and engaging in peaceful political dialogue. Furthermore, they should uphold the common good as the primary basis for decision-making, recognize their civic duties by strictly adhering to laws and community regulations, and consistently follow information from diverse sources. Emotional judgment and personal bias should be avoided, with decisions made impartially in accordance with democratic principles.
