The Application of Sāraṇīyadhamma for Promoting Reconciliation of Local Administration Officer in Sungmen District, Phrae Province

Abstract

This research article aims to: 1) study the level of reconciliation and harmony among local community leaders, 2) study the factors affecting reconciliation and harmony among local community leaders, and 3) apply the principles of Sārāṇīyadhamma to promote reconciliation and harmony among local community leaders in Sung Men District, Phrae Province. This study employed a mixed-methods approach, comprising quantitative research using questionnaires distributed to a sample of 397 individuals, determined by Taro Yamane's formula, and qualitative research using in-depth interviews with 10 key informants. Content analysis was conducted considering the context and presented descriptively alongside frequency distribution tables of key informants to support
the quantitative data.

          The research findings

1. The level of reconciliation and harmony among local community leaders through the application of Sārāṇīyadhamma principles to promote reconciliation and harmony in Sung Men District, Phrae Province, was overall at a moderate level.
2. The factors affecting reconciliation and harmony among local community leaders through the application of Sārāṇīyadhamma principles to promote reconciliation and harmony in Sung Men District, Phrae Province, had correlation values between .331 and .841, indicating that some pairs had relatively high correlations, which could lead to multicollinearity issues. Therefore, collinearity statistics were tested by examining the Tolerance and Variance Inflation Factor (VIF) values.
3. Regarding the application of Sārāṇīyadhamma principles to promote reconciliation and harmony among local community leaders in Sung Men District, Phrae Province, it was found that local leaders should demonstrate goodwill toward each other through actions such as providing assistance and support, showing respect, and being humble. They should speak only beneficially, offer encouragement, and refrain from gossiping or speaking ill of others both openly and privately. They should respectfully listen to each other's opinions, forgive one another, share acquired items equitably so that everyone can participate, strictly adhere to collective rules and regulations, and maintain aligned perspectives to ensure the achievement of set goals.
