Abstract

This article aims to explore challenges and propose pathways for transforming the teaching profession to cope with the VUCA world, which consists of Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity. This environment renders the traditional teacher role as a knowledge transmitter  insufficient, necessitating a transition to a new role as a "learning facilitator" focused on building 21st-century skills (4Cs). The article analyzes concrete teacher development practices through case studies, including the Thai context which emphasizes Professional Learning Communities (PLC) to address complexity and uncertainty, and international cases such as Singapore's lifelong learning ecosystem to handle volatility, and the use of AI in China and the US to manage ambiguity. Finally, it proposes pathways for sustainability through a paradigm shift in teacher competency assessment, focusing on evidence-based practices and authentic learner assessment. The ultimate goal is to create a  learning culture within educational institutions, enabling teachers to engage in continuous and systematic professional development.
