Abstract

Consumer protection in the area of food safety is a crucial mission of the community public health system. Village Health Volunteers (VHVs) play an essential role in monitoring and protecting consumers within the community. The objectives of this research were to develop the capacities of Village Health Volunteers in implementing food safety consumer protection in Kaeyai Subdistrict, Mueang Surin District, Surin Province.The sample group consisted of 30 Village Health Volunteers responsible for the areas under Kaeyai Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital. The research instruments included  personal information record form, andA questionnaire assessing knowledge and capacity in food safety consumer protection Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and inferential statistics (Paired t-test) at the statistical significance level of 0.05.

        Results: The research results revealed that after implementing the capacity development program for village health volunteers (VHVs), the average scores on food safety knowledge, surveillance skills, and attitudes toward food safety operations significantly increased (p<0.05). Community food surveillance efficiency increased, with increased food monitoring and sample collection for contaminant testing, and improved food safety results. Conclusion: Capacity development for village health volunteers through a workshop effectively improved the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and efficiency of VHVs' food safety consumer protection operations
