This academic article aims to present concepts, theories, and a research and development (R&D) framework that can be applied to create flexible, adaptive, and learner-centered educational innovations for the 21st century, particularly within the context of the BANI world, characterized by brittleness, anxiety, nonlinearity, and incomprehensibility. The paper explores both traditional and emerging post-COVID-19 trends in R&D, and introduces a conceptual framework for Adaptive Learning Innovation that addresses learner diversity. It includes analysis of research and case studies that employ Research and Development processes in developing educational innovations. Furthermore, the article proposes conceptual directions for creating practical, scalable innovations, along with academic recommendations and areas for future study. Emphasis is placed on the integration of interdisciplinary knowledge, technology, and the evolving educational context to develop innovations that meet both theoretical and practical needs.
