Effectiveness of The Basic Swing Drumset Skill Training Program for Music Students At The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University

Abstract

This study aimed to develop a basic swing drum set training program for music students in the Faculty of Hu-manities and Social Sciences at Ubon Ratchathani Rajabhat University.
The research employed a one-shot case study design with a sample group of four students who had prior experience in drumming but had never been exposed to swing rhythm. The training program comprised six instructional units, combining theoretical and practical content, along with a test and a performance assessment rubric. The quality of the materials was vali-dated by three experts.

 The training content focused on fundamental techniques for various drum components such as snare drum, tom-toms, and bass drum, as well as basic song performance, including Last Week, a beginner-level piece from The Art of Bop Drumming by John Riley. The research findings indicated that the training program demonstrated high effectiveness, achieving an efficiency score of 92.34/95.39, which exceeded the predetermined standard of 75/75. These results suggest that the program effectively enhances students’ fundamental swing drumming skills and supports the advancement of music education in an international context.
