The Study of English Achievement and Attitude of Upper Elementary Students through English Camp Activities

The purposes of this study were to study the English achievement and attitude of upper elementary students through English Camp activities by 1) comparing the achievement of the upper elementary students who had attended the English Camp, and 2) learning about the attitude of upper elementary students toward English Language. A sample selected with simple random sampling consisted of 46 students in upper elementary of Samakkee Bamrung Wittaya School. The research tools were namely 1) Lesson plan about nouns and comparative and superlative adjectives, 2) The Pre-Test and Post-Test of 20 items, and 3) The Attitude Test towards English language. Statistics used were mean, standard deviation and T-test analysis.
The study results were as follows
- The achievement of the 46 students after attending the English Camp had increased from the average of 13 points to 15.63 points and their achievement after attending English camp was higher than before attending the camp at 95% and was at the statistically significant level of .05
- After attending the English Camp, it was found that the average attitude of the students was 2.81 out of 3 which showed that the students had a good attitude toward English Language with the possibility to develop their English for future education. All students unanimously agreed that attending English Camp could inspire them to efficiently use English in their daily life.
