Flood Impact Assessment in Tha Khon Yang Municipality, Mahasarakham, Thailand
Keywords:
Flooding problem, Impact, Problem solvingAbstract
This research article aims to study the flooding problems, impacts, and proposed solutions in Tha Khon Yang Municipality, Kantharawichai District, Mahasarakham Province. It is a qualitative study using structured interviews with five key informants, including local vendors and residents. The findings reveal that the flooding is primarily caused by the overflow of the Chi River, which runs adjacent to the area, leading to a gradual rise in water levels. The impacts include psychological distress—such as frustration and discouragement—as well as housing issues, where residents suffer losses due to low-lying homes and insufficient preparation. Transportation is also disrupted, making travel difficult during floods. The study suggests that flood management should not be the responsibility of a single party but rather a collaborative effort involving community participation in proposing practical and sustainable solutions.
