Abstract

The purposes of this article were to investigate and analyze the qualities required for successful leadership in the BANI World (Brittle, Anxious, Non-linear, Incomprehensible), an era characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity. The study explores relevant research and examines examples of successful leaders who have navigated their organizations through challenging times. Moreover, the concept of the Four Noble Efforts is applied to the development of leadership qualities in the BANI World. The findings indicate that leaders in the BANI World require a diverse and complex set of qualities, such as flexibility, adaptability, critical thinking, and emotional intelligence. These qualities can be directly linked to the Four Noble Efforts: wisdom is related to critical thinking and problem-solving, energy is associated with determination and perseverance, mindfulness is linked to integrity and responsibility, and altruism is related to the ability to build strong relationships. The study also proposes examples of successful leaders like Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Rama IX) to demonstrate the practical application of the Four Noble Efforts in the lives of accomplished leaders. In conclusion, effective leadership in the BANI World necessitates continuous self-development, particularly in skills aligned with the Four Noble Efforts (wisdom, energy, mindfulness, and altruism). This research benefits executives, academics, and individuals interested in leadership development in the contemporary era.
