MONG ZAAE for Woodwind Quintet

Abstract

This article is an analysis of a music composition title “Mong Zaae” for Woodwind Quintet (Flute/Piccolo/Alto Flute, Oboe/English Horn, Bb Clarinet/Eb Clarinet/Bass Clarinet, F. Horn and Bassoon). Throughout the paper, the writer shows how the composer embedded his inspiration and raw material from the music and dance of the Northern Thailand region into his music composition. The final result is a wonderful piece that represents a classical contemporary music that combined the Western compositional techniques with the aesthetic philosophy of Asian, especially Northern region of Thailand.
