Music Composition MAHACHAI BETTA Suite

Abstract

This research aims to generate artistic works in the realm of musical arts, particularly focusing on the Mahachai pla Fighting Fish series song and the process of composing music. Employing qualitative research methods, the study encompasses document analysis and interviews with experts in Thai music and Mahachai wild fighting fish. The research outcomes are conveyed through the creation of musical compositions.

The Composition of the Mahachai pla Kat song series draws inspiration from songs about fish and incorporates information about the Mahachai wild fighting fish and its habitat into new musical pieces. This composition process is driven by the author's artistic vision and is influenced by the incorporation of fighting fish into the work. The series comprises five songs: 1) pla katpa Song, 2) Thin-asai Song, 3) ren lop phai Song, 4) Mahachaimas – saya Song 5) leela chan cheing Song, and 6) pla katpa siam Song.

The research results found that the Composition of the Mahachai Pla Kat song series tells the story of the Mahachai wild fighting fish, beginning with its habitat and unique characteristics. It also narrates the battles of the Mahachai wild fighting fish, with each song having a distinct melody. The music is performed by the Piphat Dukdamband, a traditional ensemble featuring low-pitched instruments that produce a soft and pleasing sound. To enhance the storytelling, a special device— a fighting fish jar— is used to mimic the sound of fish gulping air and the sensation of water, making the narrative of the Mahachai wild fighting fish more clearly.
