The Creation of a Multicultural Musical Theater Based on the Stories of Songkhla Old Town to Support and Add Value to Cultural Products

Abstract

This article is part of creative research name “The creation of a multicultural musical theater based on the stories of Songkhla old town to support and add value to cultural products.” The objective of this research is to create a musical from historical data, cultural identity, way of life and beliefs of Songkhla old town.

The process of creating a musical for Songkhla old town based on the way of life and the culture of the people in Songkhla old town. The researcher telling a musical that reflects through the 3 main cultural societies, namely Thai Buddhism, Chinese and Muslim. The stories use a mermaid as the main character and tell a story in the form of a concept musical. The musical for Songkhla old town show as name as “The stories of Singora Mermaids” have 2 short stories include “Gena” and “Aui-Siaw-Por in the Kao Hong Village”. Both stories have different musical culture, consisting of Disney music style and Chinese music style. The main music band is brass ensemble. The story present food, multiculturalism, way of life, social problems, history, and the identity of the port city of Songkhla old town.
