Teaching Strategies of Trombone in Higher Education, in Thailand

Abstract

This study of strategies for teaching trombone skills in higher education, in Thailand was studied by interviewing Mr. Somjade Sukarram. The objectives are to study the strategies for teaching trombone skills of Mr. Somjade Sukarram in higher education and his biograaphy.

Mr. Somjate Sukarram is currently working as a government officer in the position of senior music artist in Western Music Group, Fine Arts Department. Part-time lecturer at Bansomdejchaopraya Rajabhat University, Phranakhon Rajabhat University and Burapha University.

The results of the research found that strategies for teaching trombone skills in the higher education should include teaching methods or steps that improve learning in each individual student. In private teaching, the teacher must know the basic knowledge and skills of each student in order to choose teaching methods that are appropriate for the individual. The study of trombone skills in higher education, where students will study individually with a teacher. The teacher has to prepare for studying content and understanding of the lessons taught. Teacher integrate music theory and music performance to cover the learning of trombone skills. Group teaching will be in the form of teaching trombone groups. This style of teaching will bring out the important points of the trombone in the work for group practice. Students must have good personal trombone skills and be ready to adjust their playing to suit the playing style of the trombone group. Teachers must have good communication skills to explain what he  want to communicate to students to gain a better understanding of the lesson.
