Cultural Space of Thai Traditional Music in Chiang Mai Province

Abstract

This research has the following objectives: 1) to study the region related to Thai music culture in Chiang Mai Province. 2) to study the cultural significance of Thai music in Chiang Mai Province. This study used a qualitative research methodology in conducting research. Both organized and unstructured interviews were utilized to acquire evidence. The results of the study show that the cultural region associated with Thai music culture, including the latent cultural area of Thai music in Chiang Mai Province, has the following four characteristics: 1) The festival settings include the Chiang Mai Flower Festival, the Loy Krathong Festival, and the Winter Festival. 2) Ritual areas, which include public rituals and a ceremony to honor Thai music teachers. 3) Recreational areas include Khum Chao Chai Suriwong, and hand-offering 4) Venues for inheriting Thai music, including Thai music houses and educational institutions.
