The Transmission of Ranad Ek Performance by Master Watcharakorn BoonPeng
Abstract
This study investigates the transmission process of Ranad Ek performance by Master Watcharakorn BoonPeng using a qualitative approach. Data were collected through document analysis and in-depth interviews.
The findings indicate that the transmission process comprises four interrelated aspects. 1) the instructor demonstrates advanced Ranad Ek performance proficiency, particularly in melodic variation and the contextual selection of repertoire, reflecting knowledge inherited from distinguished Thai classical music masters. 2) the learners are prospective students of Bunditpatanasilpa Institute who have been formally selected and possess foundational skills in Ranad Ek performance. They are required to demonstrate readiness in physical, cognitive, and affective domains to ensure effective transmission. 3) the instructional content covers multiple categories of Thai classical repertoire, including fundamental pieces, standard repertoire, special compositions, and solo songs, with progression tailored to individual learner capacity. 4) the pedagogical approach is based on demonstration and imitation, combined with guided practice. Emphasis is placed on repetitive practice as a core mechanism for skill acquisition, while continuous assessment is conducted through close observation of learners’ developmental progress.
