Abstract

The creative research project “Drum Metamorphosis of Four Regions for Synthesizer and Percussion Ensemble” focuses on integrating the distinctive traditional drums of Thailand’s four regions with Western percussion ensembles, aiming to generate new knowledge in the field of music composition and performance. This fusion allows for practical applications in music education and offers adaptable models for institutions or schools that face limitations in traditional instrumental resources by utilizing substitute instruments such as synthesizers.

The composition is divided into four regional sections, featuring: the Sabatchai Drum as the Northern identity, the Klong Hang as the symbol of the Northeast, the Tone Chatre Drum representing the South, and the Klong Yao as the Central regional signature. The complete work consists of two original pieces and four regional-themed compositions, totaling six pieces with an approximate duration of 40 minutes. Each piece features its own structure, blending both fixed media and live performance. The composition employs Western music techniques, including motif development, melodic construction, polyrhythmic patterns, and instrumental performance techniques, to create a dynamic and innovative musical experience.
