Abstract

This study explores the awareness and practices in solid waste management (SWM) among senior high school students, employing a cross-sectional survey methodology. The results reveal a commendable level of awareness among the students, particularly in understanding the definition of solid waste and the adverse effects of improper disposal. Positive practices, such as waste segregation, reduction, reuse, and responsible disposal, are prevalent. However, a notable gap exists in the awareness of relevant laws on solid waste management. The findings underscore the crucial role of schools, teachers, parents, and social media in shaping students' awareness. Building upon these insights, the study proposes the development of an enriched curriculum on solid waste management laws to enhance students' understanding and stewardship, emphasizing collaborative efforts between schools and local communities through seminar-workshops. Additionally, targeted educational campaigns promoting sustainable waste management, including recycling and highlighting financial incentives, aim to foster environmental responsibility among senior high school students for a more sustainable future.
