PUBLIC TOILET MANAGEMENT GUIDELINES: A CASE STUDY OF JAPAN

Abstract

This article reflects the author’s ideas on the management of public restrooms in Japan and Thai temples. The author spent 6 months as a monk at a Thai temple in Japan. During the Buddhist Lent, he traveled to be a field of merit, received alms, made merit by offering robes to monks, and learned about the culture, traditions, and way of life of the people in Japan. This includes the management of public restrooms in Japan, which the author has used as a guideline for the management of restrooms in Thai temples, focusing on important issues such as cleanliness, safety standards, and separation of male and female restrooms, systematic cleaning, use of inspection tools, preventive maintenance, design that takes into account the safety of all user groups, and clearly allocated gender-specific restroom areas. This principle can be applied in the context of Thai temples to improve the standards of hygiene, safety, and convenience for users, which will have a positive effect on the image and quality of life of users at the temple.
