This article explores the growing trend of alcohol-free alternative tourism in Thai society. Over recent years, tourist behavior has shifted significantly from seeking entertainment-driven experiences (hedonistic travel) to pursuing deeper values that emphasize psychological, spiritual well-being, and meaningful life experiences. This transformation is particularly evident among individuals who lead an alcohol-free lifestyle and prioritize holistic wellness activities such as meditation, yoga, spiritual practice, and connecting with nature.
Such behavioral changes reflect a broader societal movement toward ethical living, self-awareness, and mindful lifestyles. The rise of alcohol-free tourism aligns with the increasing popularity of wellness and ethical tourism, as well as the growing demand for sustainable and health-conscious travel experiences among Thai people. This trend has been influenced by global movements and evolving cultural values within Thailand.
As a result, alcohol-free tourism has become an appealing option for travelers seeking personal growth and mental well-being through meaningful journeys. The findings suggest that this form of tourism is not merely a passing trend but a meaningful lifestyle choice that resonates with a growing segment of the Thai population.
