A Case Study of Full-Mouth Rehabilitation Using Crowns, Fixed Partial Dentures, and Metal-Based Removable Partial Dentures

Abstract

                Full-mouth rehabilitation is indicated for patients with severe tooth wear and extensive posterior tooth loss, resulting in a compromised oral condition and loss of vertical dimension (VD). This condition often leads to unstable and nonfunctional centric occlusion (CO). Therefore, comprehensive reconstruction is required to restore the dentition and re-establish an occlusal scheme that closely approximates the patient’s original physiological condition.

                This article presents the principles for diagnosing loss of vertical dimension in conjunction with edentulous ridges, as well as the corresponding treatment approaches. A case report of a 67-year-old male patient is described, who exhibited loss of vertical dimension due to multiple posterior tooth loss and prolonged improper occlusion. These conditions resulted in generalized tooth wear and multiple edentulous areas. In this case, rehabilitation was carried out all-ceramic crowns, bridges and metal-based removable partial dentures to restore proper tooth length, morphology, and esthetics, improve phonetics, and re-establish a functional and appropriate occlusal relationship.

                The patient was followed up at 1 week, 2 weeks, and 3 months post-treatment. The outcomes demonstrated satisfactory esthetics and occlusal stability, and the patient expressed satisfaction with the treatment results. However, full-mouth rehabilitation using this approach requires a high level of patient compliance and careful consideration of additional factors, including treatment cost, extended treatment duration, and the patient’s general health condition, in order to achieve optimal treatment success.
