Similes in Isan Folk Songs

Abstract

       The objectives of this study are: 1) to investigate similes in Isankhadee Isan folk series, 2) to study the poetry in Isankhadee Isan folk series, and 3) to study the use of Isan dialect in Isankhadee Isan folk song series. This qualitative study utilizes data from the Isankhadee Isan folk series to study, analyze, synthesize, and present information in form of a narrative to understand the use of Isan dialect in Isankhadee Isan folk series.

       The research findings on similes that appeared in Isankhadee Isan folk series found that: 1) similes are found in concrete compared to abstract, concrete compared to concrete, abstract compared to abstract and abstract compared to concrete, 2) poetries include themes of Saowarojanee (extoling the beauty of natural landscapes or scenic locations, often personifying them as a beautiful woman), Nareepramote (love, longing or romantic difficulties) Pirothwaathang (verses expressing anger or indignation) and Sallapangkapisai (expressing sadness or grief). 3) The northeastern dialect in Isankhadee isan folk series is characterized by its straightforwardness, easy comprehension, simplicity, warmth, sincerity, and the ability to evoke the lively flavors of Isan, enticing listeners to enjoy and engage even more.
