Abstract

In the digital era, where technology plays a crucial role in all dimensions of society, sustainable development has become a global priority requiring collaboration across all sectors. This article aims to analyze and present the connections between technology, sustainable development, and essential learning skills for global citizenship in the 21st century. It emphasizes an integrative approach that fosters the responsible use of technology while creating positive social and environmental impacts. This study employs documentary research and case study analysis to collect relevant data and conduct a comparative analysis of the skills required in the digital age and the demands of sustainable development. The findings reveal that technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Blockchain have the potential to support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in education, clean energy, and efficient resource management. Furthermore, challenges arising from technology, such as electronic waste, digital inequality, and privacy risks, highlight the need to develop 21st century learning skills. These include critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and digital literacy. The new insights presented in this article include (1) strategies for integrating technology into education to promote global citizenship skills, (2) frameworks for sustainable technology development in the context of the SDGs, and (3) policies supporting sustainable digital learning at community and global levels. Recommendations from this study can be applied to policy development, curriculum design, and international collaboration to effectively promote sustainable development in the digital age.
