Impact of psychological factors on financial decision-making and planning for small-scale entrepreneurs in a digital business landscape: A localized study in Nakhon Ratchasima

Abstract

The objectives of this study are to investigate (1) the levels of psychological factors affecting financial investment decision-making and financial planning and (2) the influence of psychological factors on the financial investment decisions and planning of small entrepreneurs within a digital business environment. The sample consisted of 400 small entrepreneurs in the specified area, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using questionnaires. The statistical analyses employed in this study included Mean, Standard Deviation, and Enter Multiple Regression Analysis. The research findings are as follows (1) Regarding information perception behaviors related to financial planning, the majority of small entrepreneurs in the digital business environment primarily utilize YouTube as their main social media platform for information. The entrepreneurs are the sole decision-makers regarding their finances and actively follow financial updates (such as financial institution news and market analyses) via specialized financial pages. The peak time for seeking online information is between 14:30 and 16:30, with a frequency of 3–4 days per week. (2) The participants rated the importance of psychological factors influencing financial investment and planning at a high level, the highest priority was given to Modern Technology and Innovation (MTI), followed by Risk Perception (RP), Financial Literacy (FL), Financial Attitude, Motivation, Self-Confidence (SC), Laws and Regulations (REG), Social Media Influence, Perception/Learning, and Financial Technology Acceptance (FTA), respectively.(3) Regarding the influence of psychological factors, the multiple regression analysis revealed that six factors significantly impact the financial investment and planning of small entrepreneurs: Financial Literacy (FL), Financial Technology Acceptance (FTA), Risk Perception (RP), Self-Confidence (SC), and Laws and Regulations (REG). These factors collectively account for 47% of the variance, with statistical significance at the .01 level.
