THE PROCESS OF ENHANCING THE PUBLIC MINDS OF TEMPLES AND COMMUNITIES IN PUBLIC SPACE, TRON DISTRICT, UTTARADIT PROVINCE

Abstract

The objectives of this research were 1) to study the participation of temples and communities in the public spaces, Tron district, Uttaradit Province; 2) to study the problems and obstacles in the process of enhancing the public minds of temples and communities in public space, Tron District, Uttaradit Province and 3) to study the process of enhancing the public minds of temples and communities in public space, Tron District, Uttaradit Province. This research was a mix-methods research between quantitative and qualitative research. The sample consisted of 395 persons for quantitative research. The qualitative research used in-depth interview and focus group concluded 26 persosns.

The research were found as follows :

1) The participation of temples and communities in the public spaces, Tron district, Uttaradit Province, overall was at a medium level. When considering each aspect, it was found that at it was a medium level in every aspect as follows; participation; Impartiality (Samānattatā); useful conduct or behavior (Atthacariyā); Kindly Speech (Piyavācā); and Giving (Dāna) respectively. The study also showed that the relationship of temples and communities is in a positive direction.

2) The study of the problems and obstacles in the process of enhancing the public minds of temples and communities in public space Tron District, Uttaradit Province, it was found that the social context and way of life changing of the people affected the consciousness in participation in public mind activities and the change of society from a rural society to urban society, resulting in greater competition. The guidelines for developing, It should organize the activities to develop the knowledge on public mind by applying the Four Bases of Social Solidarity (Saṅgahavatthu) in the public mind activities.

3) The process of enhancing the public minds of temples and communities in public space, Tron district, Uttaradit Province was found as follows; 1) Participation, It is further developed from community activities, inheriting Buddhist traditions and the arrangement of creative activities for social development; 2) Giving (Dāna), It has giving or donating money and things; 3) Kindly Speech (Piyavācā), It has emphasized the cultivation of morality to develop the speaking so that everyone can use mindfulness to control negative behavior; 4) Useful conduct or behavior (Atthacariyā), It has organized service activities aiming to restore relationships between temples and communities; and 5) Impartiality (Samānattatā), il has conducted and worked based on the service mind on a regular basis.
