DEVELOPMENT INNOVATIVE SPLINT FOR OLDER PERSONS WITH HIP FIRACTURE, PHRAE PROVINCE

Abstract

This research was Research and Development. The objectives were 1) to develop innovative splint for older persons with hip fracture from folk wisdom, and 2) to compare the results of using innovations of splint on reducing pain in older persons for The transport phase for the elderly hip fracture According to the ADDI MODEL framework, the sample group in Phase I consisted of 50 people, including 10 medical emergency volunteers, 7 community health leaders (VHVs), 2 orthopedic physicians, 1 heads of the Emergency Medical Service Operations Center and 30 older persons. The second phase sample consisted of 44 elderly hip fractures, 22 in the experimental group and 22 in the control group. Qualitative data were analyzed by content grouping. Compare the results before and after the development using Paired t-test statistics.

The results of developing the forms of splint for older persons with hip fracture responder after developing were:

1) The development of innovative splint is a support from the feet to the back with a length of 120 the upper support is 30 cm long, each piece is 2 inches wide, 0.5 cm thin. Prevents corrosion by soaking the wood in eucalyptus leaf water for 5 days and drying until completely dry. Paint with 2 coats of wood lacquer paint, padded with 1 cm thick heat-resistant soft sponge and
covered with good grade plastic cloth. Fasten the grommets on the shins, thighs, hips, and waist above the hips.

2) The mean pain level of the elderly with hip fracture found that the elderly group who received the innovation “Bamboo sticks” have a level of pain. They were significantly less than those of the elderly who received normal veneers at the .01 level ( = 5.00, SD = 0.00, t = 0.478, p < .01).
