PUBLIC POLITICAL PARTICIPATION IN LOCAL ADMINISTRATORS'S ELECTION OF TUNG KWAO SUB-DISTRICT MUNICIPALITY, MUEANG PHRAE DISTRICT IN PHRAE PROVINCE

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1. To study the level of political participation of citizens in the election of local executives of Thung Kwao Sub-District Municipality, Muang Phrae District, Phrae Province, 2. To study the relationship between Aparihaniyadhamma principles and the political participation of citizens in the election of local executives of Thung Kwao Sub-district Municipality, Muang Phrae District, Phrae Province and 3. To study the problems, obstacles and suggestions for ways to improve people's political participation in the election of the local executives of Thung Kwao Sub-District Municipality, Mueang Phrae District, Phrae Province, conducted with the mixed research methodology. The quantitative research collected data from 370 samples living at Thung Kwao Sub-District.  Muang Phrae District, Phrae Province, derived from   total population of 4,886 people, calculated the size of the sample using the Taro Yamane’s formula and analyzed data by using frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Pearson’s Correlation Coefficients. The qualitative Research, data were collected from 10 key informants, purposefully selected with an in-depth interview method, and use descriptive content analysis techniques to provide context, and presented in an essay form to enumerate the frequency distribution of key informants to support the quantitative data.

Findings were as follows: 1. The degree of political participation of the people in the election of the local executives of Thung Kwao District Municipality. Mueang Phrae District, Phrae Province were found that principles of Aparihaniyadharma as a whole was at very high level of average 2. The relationship between Apparihaniyadhamma principles of and the political participation of the people in the election of the local executives of Thung Kwao Sub-District Municipality. Mueang Phrae District, Phrae Province as a whole was a relatively high level of positive correlation (r = .704**) 3. Problems, obstacles regarding the political participation of citizens in the election of local executives of Thung Kwao Municipality. Mueang Phrae District, Phrae Province, were found that some people rarely attend meetings with the administration. It was about public relations for the people to elect local executives. Some citizens rarely take part in the local executive election campaign. In helping to distribute municipal pamphlets, some citizens rarely participated in public relations campaigns and invited the public to go to exercise the right to elect mayors and municipal councillors. Suggestions were that people should attend meetings with the administration about public relations for the people to elect local executives. The public should take part in the local executive election campaign, to help distribute municipal leaflets, the public should take part in the public relations campaign and invite the public to go to exercise the right to elect mayors and municipal councillors.
