THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN INSTRUCTIONAL MODEL TO ENHANCE LANGUAGE TEACHING CAPACITY BASED ON COGNITIVE APPRENTICESSHIP FOR TEACHER PROFESSIONAL STUDENTS IN CHINESE LANGUAGE TEACHING MAJOR
Main Article Content
Abstract
This article aimed to develop teaching model to enhance Chinese language teaching performance though cognitive apprenticeship of pre-service teacher studying in Teaching Chinese program by following the 5 steps : 1. Studying and analyzing theories and concepts relating to cognitive apprenticeship and the enhancement of Chinese teaching performance,
2. Synthesizing knowledge in order to be the conceptual framework of teaching model development, 3. Developing teaching model for enhancing Chinese language teaching performance though cognitive apprenticeship, 4. Creating teaching materials in order to enhance Chinese language teaching performance of pre-service teachers though cognitive apprenticeship, and 5. Checking and evaluating the constructed teaching model before try-out.
The results were as follows;
The teaching model for enhancing Chinese language teaching performance of pre-service teachers should focus on problem-based learning and observational learning. In addition, giving various complex tasks and responsibilities, regarded as learning outcome reflection, can promote learners’ knowledge and understanding, leading to self-development. Learning management was divided into 2 phases: phase 1: teaching preparation (it should be conducted before teaching), phase 2: constructing knowledge (it should be conducted in classroom teaching) consisting of 8 following steps: 1. Teachers teach contents and related theories to learners, 2. Learners collect and summarize information, 3. Learners design lesson plans by following teachers’ advice and model, 4. Learners reflect their lesson plan’s contents, 5. Teachers prepare learners for their school practicum, 6. Learners use their lesson plan in real situations, 7. Learners summarize their learning outcome and reflect their learning, both in theoretical and practical aspects, and 8. Learners evaluate their learning outcome based on authentic assessment.
