A CASE STUDY-BASED ONLINE INSTRUCTIONAL SYSTEM FOR ENHANCING SOCIAL STUDIES INSTRUCTIONAL INNOVATION OF STUDENT TEACHER BUDDHIST COLLEGE BUDDHACHINARA MAHACHULALONGKORNRAJVIDYALAYA UNIVERSITY

Abstract

          The objectives of this study were 1) to investigate the current state of online teaching of internship 1 subject; 2) to analyze problems and obstacles of online teaching of internship 1 subject; 3) to construct and develop an online learning system for internship 1 subject; and 4) to evaluate the efficiency of the online learning system of Phuttha Chinarat Buddhist College, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University. Research and development (R&D) were applied in this study. The 24 subjects were selected by using the purposive sampling method. The opinion survey was used to collect data from 32 subjects. The quantitative data were analyzed by using  mean and standard deviation. The qualitative data were collected by interviewing 12 experts in order to develop the system. The focus group discussion was conducted with 9 experts to evaluate the appropriateness of the system. The data were analyzed using content analysis.

         The results were as follows:

         1) The current state for online teaching of internship 1 subject of Phuttha Chinarat Buddhist College was overall at a high level. Considering each aspect, the online teaching problems and the use of computers were at a high level. Other aspects were at a moderate level. 

         2) The results of the analysis of online teaching problems and obstacles were revealed as follows: 1. Planning an online teaching system, for example, interesting instructional media should be integrated into online teaching to deal with students’ boredom. As online learning gives students more flexibility than in a traditional classroom, a higher responsibility is needed. 2. Problems and obstacles in managing online learning were distraction caused by noise and the lack of ICT tools in extended families. 3. The development of online teaching involved giving students the opportunity to study and motivating them through the use of appropriate ICT learning tools.

         3) In terms of the construction and delevopment of online learning system, the results were as follows: 1. Satisfaction level towards Online learning system to enhance the creation of Social Studies innovation of students majoring in Social Studies, faculty of Education, Phuttha Chinarat Buddhist College, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University was at a high level. Considering each aspect, supporting factors receieved a moderate level. 2. The post-test scores (mean=14.50, S.D.=1.18) were higher than pre-test scores (mean=18.21, S.D.=1.06), with a statistically significant level of .05.

         4) The efficiency of online learning system was at a high level.
