BUDDHADHAMMA INTEGRATION FOR PROMOTING THE ROLE OF LOCAL POLITICIANS IN PARTICIPATORY WASTE MANAGEMENT OF PA MAT SUBDISTRICT MUNICIPALITY AT MUEANG PHRAE DISTRICT IN PHRAE PROVINCE

Abstract

          The purposes of this mixed-method study were : 1) to investigate the level of local politician roles in participatory solid waste management; 2) to study factors affecting local politician roles in participatory solid waste management; and 3) to propose the integration of Buddha-dhamma to promote the role of local politicians in participatory solid waste management in Pa Mat Subdistrict Municipality, Mueang Phrae District, Phrae Province. The exploratory research approach was employed. The population consisted of 10,114 people living in Pa Mat sub-district. The 385 participants were selected by using Taro Yamane's formula.The data were analyzed using frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The multiple regression was employed to analyze the relationship between Saṇgahavatthu 4 and the integration of Buddha Dharma to promote local politician roles in the participatory solid waste management of Pa Mat Subdistrict Municipality. The qualitative data were collected by using in-depth interview with 9 key informants. To analyze the qualitative data, the content analysis and descriptive analysis of context were applied. The data were presented in descriptive form with grouped frequency table to support quantitative data.

         The findings were as follows:

         1) The overall average of Saṇgahavatthu 4 and local politician roles in the participatory solid waste management of Pa Mat Sub-District Municipality were at a high level (= 3.75) while the overall average of local politician roles in the participatory solid waste management of Pa Mat Municipality were at a high level (= 3.82). was at an average level.

         2) In terms of factors affecting  local politician roles in participatory solid waste management  applying the Saṇgahavatthu 4 principle and the integration of Buddha-dhamma to promote local politician roles in the participatory solid waste management of Pa Mat Sub-District Municipality, according to the hypothesis testing, the findings pointed that the relationship between local politician roles in participatory solid waste management applying the Saṇgahavatthu 4 principle and the integration of Buddha-dhamma to promote local politician roles in the participatory solid waste management of Pa Mat Sub-District Municipality was high correlation at a significant level of 0.01; the hypothesis was accepted.

         3) In terms of the integration of Saṇgahavatthudharma to promote local politician roles in the participatory solid waste management of Pa Mat Sub-District Municipality, it was found that 1) Dāna, Knowledge and understanding of solid waste management were given by creating a campaign and providing resources for learning and advice, resulting in an increase in community income. 2) Piyavāca, The use of polite, understandable, and practical conversations was beneficial in solid waste management and public relations campaigns, resulting in a better understanding of solid waste management. 3) Atthacariyā, doing good for oneself and others can help solve the community waste problem, resulting in a good role model. 4) Samānattatā, treating others as one would have them treat oneself, and being a good role model for community can benefit everyone.
