Abstract

This academic article based on the Tipitaka and academic documents in order to study the effect of violating the 5th precept. It is aimed to 1) study the concept on the 5th precept, 2) to study the effect of violating the 5th precept. Results of the study are as follows: Precept that an intoxicant drink is the cause of carelessness. Upon the intake of intoxicant drink, it cause carelessness and losing physical control. The violating of the 5th precept is summed up that the Buddha pointed out the alcohol is the cause leading to violation of the other precepts, undermining the quality of life and affecting the quality of life development in respective of developing oneself,family, economy and society. As for the impact of the 5th precept violating, it was found that the violator will suffer directy and indirecty no matter it was committed intentionally or unintentionally.
