Crime Prevention and Suppression in Nong Khaem District, Bangkok Metropolitan

Abstract

This research objective were (1) to study the obstacles that cause the crime prevention

and suppression in Nong Khaem District, Bangkok Metropolitan to be ineffective, and (2) to study recommendations for appropriate approaches to solve the obstacles that cause the crime prevention and suppression in Nong Khaem District, Bangkok Metropolitan to be ineffective. This research was quantitative. The population for this study consisted of 134 police officers. The sample comprised 56 police officers from Nong Khaem District, selected using purposive sampling. The research instrument was a questionnaire, and data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, specifically frequency distribution and percentages.

The research results found that:

1. the obstacles that cause the crime prevention and suppression in Nong Khaem District, Bangkok Metropolitan to be ineffective. The respondents' opinions regarding the major obstacles was arranged in descending order of response from most to least as follows: constitutional provisions granting rights and freedoms to citizens that limited the performance of duties; the requirement for court warrants for property searches; the lack of legal protection for officers' work; the insufficient 48-hour timeframe for filing charges, hindering evidence gathering; inadequate penalties and judicial processes; public distrust of the police; lacked of cooperation from witnesses and relatives of suspects; poor communication between the police and the public; local influential figures; insufficient manpower; limited compensation and welfare; shortages of equipment; ineffective interagency coordination; and uncertainty in Royal Thai Police policy.

2. The recommendations for appropriate approaches to solve the obstacles that cause of response from most to least frequent, as follows: increasing police personnel, providing necessary and modern equipment, improving laws and regulations to facilitate operations, and promoting discipline and interagency cooperation to sustainably enhance the effectiveness of crime prevention and suppression in the area.
