THE STUDY OF SOCIAL REFLECTION IN THE NOVEL “LAKE OF TEARS” BY “VEERAPORN NITIPRAPHA”

Abstract

This research article aimed to study the social reflections in the novel “Lake of Tears” by Veeraporn Nitiprapha, focusing on analyzing social issues presented in the literary. This study is a documentary research. The study was the novel “Lake of Tears” published in 2020. The theoretical framework employed for data analysis was based on the concept of social reflection derived from the works of Supis Uengsae, Charin Inthasuwan, and Penchan Mapracha. A content analysis, with findings presented in a descriptive analysis format.

          The research found that:

The novel deeply reflected societal issues: family-related reflections, highlighting violence and lack of responsibility, accounted for 35%; love-related reflections, encompassing diverse forms such as pure love and unrequited love, comprised 30%; societal behavior reflections, including violence, bullying, and life weariness, constituted 25%; and other reflections, such as values of appearance and urban-rural disparities, made up 10%. The author intended to convey that literature served as a mirror reflecting societal truths, encouraging readers to recognize the importance of relationships and emotional healing in contemporary society.
