This objectives of this research were: 1) to develop the exercises on reading comprehension from short stories using the STAD type cooperative learning model and 2) to compare academic achievements before and after studying using the exercises on reading comprehension from short stories with the STAD type cooperative learning model for Matthayom 1 students. The sample group used in this study was 30 students in Matthayom 1/4, obtained by cluster random sampling. The research tools were 1) a learning management plan, 2) a pre-school and post-school achievement test, and 3) the exercises on reading comprehension from short stories using the STAD type cooperative learning model for Matthayom 1 students. The statistics used in the research were percentage, mean ( ) and standard deviation (S.D.)
The results of this research found that: the exercises on reading comprehension from short stories using the STAD type cooperative learning model was effective according to the 80/80 criterion. The post-test was higher than before studying with statistical significance at the .05 level.
